I have not carried out a focus group, however I have carried out a questionnaire, which I feel is an equivalent. Questionnaires and interviews are very different. Questionnaires are a short process and can target many people at once, whilst interviews are a long process and can only target one or two people at a time. Therefore if I had carried out a focus group instead (which is much like an interview), I wouldn't have been able to get the variety of results that I did, and they may have been biased as I would have only interviewed my close friends, who are comfortable with it. However interviews do get more honest answers than questionnaires, and can offer a variety of answers instead of closed questions, as those completing questionnaires may get bored and "just start ticking random boxes". In conclusion, I believe that questionnaires are better than focus groups when researching my target audience, as it can reach more people, isn't biased, and can offer data and advice that I can easily assess and use when creating my final product.
